Volunteering with Cavett Kids

Cavett Kids originally began with camps, then expanded to include other programs and events.  The greatest need for camp volunteers is with our two largest camps:

Camp Cavett

Held each July, this is our largest and most inclusive camp, serving 200 children with a variety of chronic and life-threatening illnesses.  At this Camp Cavett, you don't have to have the same illness to have the same experience.  this camp includes archery, paintball, lake front activities, hovercraft, arts, and crafts, salon, a carnival, knapping, camp dances, a 40 ft waterslide and more.

Kamp Courage

Held each August, this is our second largest camp, serving 70-100 children.  Dry Gulch, USA is ideal because it allowed us to combine threee separate camps into one space and time.  Kamp Courage serves children with Chronic Kidney Disease, kidney transplants, Dialysis patients, Spina Bifida, PKU, and those with mobility challenges.  This cmap includes a ropes course, bumper cars, go-carts, swimming, arcade, horseback-riding, basketball, and more.

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities at Camp

Key volunteer roles include 1) General Volunteers – Assist with the variety of camp activities, 2) Camp Counselors – Assist with camper management and guidance and 3) Medical Volunteers – Assist with care of our campers.

The time for Camp Volunteers varies from 1 day commitments to being present for the entire camp. Preference and placement is given to those with longer commitments, because the medical conditions bring an increased complexity to these camps. Continuity of staff and volunteers is ideal, because it helps build relationships with campers, in addition to maintaining consistent caregiving.

We ask Volunteers to contribute a minimum of $30 towards the cost of application process and background check. Additional donations are always appreciated (but not required) because it costs several hundred dollars for Cavett Kids to provide volunteers with food, accommodations and transportation to and from Children’s Hospital.

Camp Volunteer registration for 2016 is currently under development and will be posted on our website at cavettkids.org next spring.

Event Volunteers

CKF offers several events throughout the year, however our two biggest events are the spring and fall fundraisers. Their success depends on a number of volunteers and with a variety of volunteer roles:

Camp Champ Challenge

April 30, 2016 @ Riverwind’s Showplace Theater in Norman, OK

This fun, laid-back and unique event is a Cavett Kids take on a corporate challenge. Teams of five compete in a series of creative and engaging challenges to earn points towards winning the coveted title of Camp Champs.  Each challenge lets competitors flex their creative, quick thinking, and problem-solving muscles alongside their teammates and team "Camper Coach." Coaches are Cavett Kids campers chosen to give inspiration, help guide their team before and at the event and give them a glimpse into the life of a Cavett Kid.

Cavett Kids Got Talent

November 18, 2015 @ Riverwind’s Showplace Theater in Norman, OK

This is our annual fundraising dinner and inspirational talent show. Donors join us for dinner, drinks, great silent and live auction items, and a fantastic evening filled with the most inspirational entertainment around. The highlight of the evening is when a small group of our awesome campers showcase their talents and share their stories about how the Cavett Kids Foundation and our donors have made a difference in their lives.

Volunteer times are flexible and include assisting with event preparations the week of the event, set-up at the event location and working the night of the event.

Camp Volunteer registration for 2015 is currently under development and will be posted on our website at cavettkids.org this spring.
